Preserving Legacy Through Storytelling, Media, and Digital Experience
A milestone anniversary — and no clear path for how to honor it
When the RWJF Health Policy Fellows program began planning for its 50th anniversary, they knew a history project would be central. But they didn't know what form it should take. RWJF HPF partnered with Blake Learning Solutions to define the right path forward. Together, we established clear goals:
- Celebrate the legacy of the Health Policy Fellows program by highlighting achievements and milestones over 50 years
- Engage, inspire, and inform the program's audiences and stakeholders about the history
- Document and preserve history through documentary-quality video, oral history interviews, and the collection and curation of program information and memories
- Build a lasting library of video, photos, data, and stories of the program's impact
A digital exhibit, documentary videos, and a keepsake book — one cohesive story in three formats
By combining a digital exhibit, documentary-style video, and a printed book, we created a solution that captures the depth of the program's history while making it accessible, engaging, and easy to expand over time.
Interactive Digital Exhibit
A living, web-based version of the story featuring interpretive text, embedded video and oral histories, archival documents and photography, designed for exploration and ongoing updates.
Documentary-Style Videos
We conducted 67 interviews capturing 40+ hours of footage, then edited it into 55 separate videos totaling 4+ hours of finished film. First-person narratives from fellows and leaders bring depth, emotion, and authenticity to the story.
Coffee Table Book
A visually rich, tangible keepsake combining images, quotes, and key moments — informed by 3 days in the NASEM Archives and nearly 3,000 collected items including documents, photographs, and program ephemera.
